Summer Camp - Castle Point-Summer Camp- Extended Hours Town of Wappinger Summer Camp 2025*Important Health & Safety Notice*To our Camp Family, Today, we were made aware of two cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease at Castle Point Camp. The children were not present at camp when they began to show symptoms, but it is important to let our families know to be on the lookout for any symptoms in their own campers. Also, as many of our camp families participate in outside activities that result in children from different camps crossing paths, we wanted to make sure we got this information out to both camps. While the two campers were not with us when they began showing signs of HFMD we would like to remind you of a few protocols and courtesies. We know that summer is the season of rashes from things completely unrelated to HFMD like the heat, sensitivity to sweat, or contact with an irritant in the environment. However, if your camper has any sort of rash; keep them home. We will send home any child who begins showing signs of a rash and they can not return to camp until it resolves. Please let us know what is going on with your child. If your child is home with something that turns out to be contagious such as HFMD, please please please tell us. Our licensing agency, the Dutchess County Board of Health, requires us to report in any cases of contagious illness and to send out notices such as the one you are reading now. The only people who will know the identity of any children who are reported as ill are myself, the director of the child’s camp, staff who have worked directly with the child, and the Dutchess County Department of Health. All of us greatly value your privacy so please do not withhold information because you are worried people will find out your child is ill. While hand, foot, and mouth disease is typically a mild childhood disease, it is highly contagious. Your cooperation and transparency if your child should fall ill is crucial to keeping the spread of this condition to a minimum. Thank you, Jessica Fulton, CPRP Recreation Director If you have any questions, you can email me at jfulton@townofwappingerny.gov or text me at 845-372-4484. A short video about Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease from Akron Children's Hospital: If you have any questions, you can email me at jfulton@townofwappingerny.gov or text me at 845-372-4484.
